The Rich
and Famous is the brainchild creation of Jeff and Cliff Hoad, two
brothers most people would be familiar with from the rock band
Kings Of The Sun. The ‘Kings’ still have a large following today, a
fan base that’s been loyal since the band split in the early
nineties. If you would like to know more about the Kings Of The Sun
and the Hoad boys visit this website http://www.geocities.com/thingaboutrocknroll/
for a
good independent bio on the band Kings Of The
Sun.
After touring the U.S and most the world for some six years and
releasing three albums and numerous chart topping singles with the
Kings Of The Sun, touring with such heavy weights as KISS through
out Europe and other major acts through out United States, Jeff and
Cliff both took a break from the music business and perused their
individual interests.
They both had become dishearten with the music scene and the
direction it had taken particularly during the nineties. Although
it had been a number of years since releasing an album the brothers
still had that music vibrating through their veins like all good
musicians have and the taste of a good rock tune is never far away.
Jeff and Cliff had not stopped writing and jamming together and
over time they had accumulated a large catalogue of songs just
waiting for the right time. Come 2003 and rock was back! And so was
the Hoad brothers along with their good friend artist/musician Dean
Turner, the rock band The Rich and Famous was born.
After listening to The Rich and Famous first two albums you quickly
appreciate how different each these album are, the first, a self
titled album is full of what Jeff calls “experimental songs”, songs
that moved him completely away from the raw hard rock sound
normally associated with Kings Of The Sun. The album shows up Jeff
and Cliff’s natural song writing abilities and their diverse
musical talents. The Rich and Famous is proof that the Hoad boys
can be cool and slick as well as hard rockin’.
Their 2nd release ‘Like A Superstar’ is testimony to which
direction the brothers want to take the band, having been
influenced by great Aussie rock bands like AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and
often being compared to Aerosmith and Ted Nugent, the Hoad boys
with The Rich and Famous create an original raw rock sound with
this album just bursting at the seams with good solid hard rock
tunes.
The latest album 'Stand Back' continues on where the second album
left off, with that hard rock edge the band love to play. Stand
Back is out now.
The Rich and Famous once again show that rock never dies it just
keeps getting better.

Jeff
Hoad musical
career started late when big brother cliffs band “The Young Lions”
was without a front man he filled those new shoes with ease adding
guitar later .By the time Kings of the sun had formed Jeff was
playing all the guitars and co writing the songs with Cliff .The
Rich and Famous finds them both wearing all hats including
production (by necessity not choice)
Jeff
designs the t-shirts and loves all things Guitars, Clothes and Cars
searching the globe for obscure guitar pedals, Old Hotwheels,
Mopars or German war memorabilia.
Cliff Hoad has been
playing the drums for as long as he can remember, "I never really
considered playing any other instrument, it just felt right from
the first time I sat behind a set of drums". Cliff's love of
drumming (Cliff's ability can be heard on track 12 of the new
album, a 25 minute drum solo, one of the longest, if not the
longest rock drum solo ever recorded) and his search for the
perfect sound has him designing and building his own drum
equipment, see the snare drum in photo below. Cliff also enjoys
jazz, he has a very good collection of jazz records and has since
become an accomplished saxophone player (tenor). He can be heard
playing the sax on the first R & F album. Currently Cliff is
writing his own memoirs, an autobiography he's thinking of calling
"Drummers Are Born Not Made" ! - Cliff 's views on this can be seen
in the forum under General heading and then under the topic '
Drummers are an endangered species'
Apart
from music Dean is an accomplished artist (he painted the cover of
the album 'like A Superstar') his talent is sort after by many
designers and art lovers all over the world. His wall murals
skills, his eye for detail in his paintings and sketchings of rock
stars and famous people as well as wild animals is just amazing. He
has his own website in which he sells and promotes his own
art www.deanleroy.com is full
of Deans creations, go check it out (see a sample of his art
below).
